Short Form Video…Trailers?

What is this: Max DeMarco posted a great video trailer directly to Twitter for his new YouTube video.

Why this works: 

1. Emotion: Max uses a strong hook, quick cuts & music to hold tension throughout the video.

2. CTA: He didn’t just throw up a random clip from the video. Instead, he has a clear CTA that drives traffic to his YouTube with a link in the follow up tweet.

3. Format: He didn’t force his video to be a vertical TikTok style. Instead, he condensed it to a more square aspect ratio to stand out. The cinematic black bars on the side looked pretty cool.

With just 6.2k subscribers, Max was able to get 2,000 views on his video. That’s an amazing ratio.

3 Lessons you can apply to your own content:

1. Use short content trailers: If you have a long form piece of content that took a lot of effort, give it a proper trailer. It will take more work than the standard short clips, but it will get you more attention on launch.

2. Promote shamelessly: If you post a video on YouTube, don’t just hope & pray your followers see it. Share it on all your social platforms. Post clips. Use stories. Relentlessly drive traffic to the full video.

3. Don’t be afraid to try different formats: Yes, vertical platforms are king. But on X & LinkedIn? Square, landscape do just as well. Think outside the (vertical) rectangle.
